Apply for the Slovak Government Scholarships Program 2020/2021

Applications for the Scholarships of the Government of the Slovak Republic are officially open. Slovak government scholarships have long been a part of Slovakia's official development assistance, which itself is a programme and project activity of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs within the international community. Along side Stipends, accommodation and various allowances awarded to successful applicants, Scholarship holders also enjoy discounts provided to students in the SR by the relevant sector of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR.

Government Scholarships are provided for a specific period of time. In exceptional cases, the Commission of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR may pass decisions regarding changes of this period.  The Commission shall assess the reasons stated by the applicant in the written application and credibly confirmed by required documentation. Such decisions are final and may not be appealed.

Benefits

Benefits for applicants are as below.

Government Scholarships of the Slovak Republic will comprise the following items in the 2020/2021 academic year:

Bachelors and Masters university study:

  • Monthly scholarship - 280 €
  • One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the SR  - 35 €
  • One-time stipend upon the completion of study in the SR - 100 €
  • Monthly stipend for public university  - 80 €

PhD university study:

  • Monthly scholarship  - 330 €
  • One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the  SR  - 35 €
  • One-time stipend upon the completion of study in the SR - 100 €
  • Monthly stipend for public university  - 240 €

Scholarship holders also enjoy discounts provided to students in the SR by the relevant sector of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR.

Language and preparatory studies for all levels of university study:

  • Monthly scholarship - 280 €
  • One-time stipend upon the commencement of study in the SR - 35 €
  • Monthly stipend for public university - 80 €

Overview of fees in the course of study in the SR:

  • dormitory accommodation    -  46 - 77 €/month
  • meals (8.00 €/day)     - 240 €/ month

Upon the commencement of studies, the following expenses must be covered:

  • medical examination: Europe/Africa, Asia  -    183 €/264 €
  • interview related to entrance application procedure   -    20 - 80 €

A similar situation applies upon the scholarship holder’s completion of studies due to increased costs related to

  • completion of degree work 33 €
  • dissertation 50 €
  • translation and authentication of diploma 33 €

Incentive stipend – it shall be paid one year in arrears,  as follows:

  • bonus for grade point average of 1.3   - 50 €/month
  • for PhD students for exams passed by the required deadline 170 €/year

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must fulfill the following criteria

You must belong to priority countries of the Slovak ODA (Government Resolution No. 6/2020)

  • Georgia
  • Republic of Kenya
  • Republic of Moldova
  • Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
  • Republic of Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Kosovo (in accordance with the Resolution of UNSC No. 1244/99)
  • Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
  • Republic of Armenia
  • Republic of Azerbaijan
  • Mongolia
  • Palestinian National Authority
  • Republic of the Sudan
  • Socialist Republic of Vietnam
  • Republic of Iraq
  • Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
  • Lebanese Republic
  • Syrian Arab Republic
  • Republic of Belarus
  • Ukraine

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies

  • Good secondary school grades,
  • Not more than 25 years of age,
  • Strong grades on the major subjects that are key to the specialty preferred,
  • Completed Secondary Education in the last three (3) years,
  • Has original certificate.

Post Graduate (Ph.D. degree studies)

  • Are serving in the public sector,
  • Completed two (2) years of continuous public service since their last degree studies,
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of at least Upper Second class honors level,
  • Ph.D. applicants must have a relevant Master’s Degree,
  • Not more than 40 years of age.

Application

To apply you must follow the following procedure

  1. You will have to fill in the application according to the instructions.
  2. Compulsory attachments must be added to the application.
  3. In the event that any of compulsory attachments will not be attached to the application the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the SR will not accept this application and at the same time it will be automatically disqualified from the process of nomination for study.
