Québec Merit scholarships for foreign Vocational students in Canada

Apply for the Québec Merit scholarships for Vocational training International students in Canada. There are two programs being financed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Learning (MEES) and managed by Éducation internationale through its Québec métiers d’avenir service. The main objectives of the scholarships include the following:

  • To support the internationalisation of vocational training centers.
  • To offer exceptionally talented international students the opportunity to come and undergo vocational training in Québec
  • To enhance a steady offer and wide coverage of vocational training.

About the program: The Merit Scholarships program for foreign students is offered to students who pursue vocational training, technical training at the college level, or studies at the university level. The program is offered in order to attract the best international candidates for studies in Québec and to encourage student recruitment in programs with good job and research prospects. The Merit Scholarship program allows recipients to benefit from:

  • a scholarship that provides financial assistance during their studies
  • an exemption from the differential tuition fees payable by foreign students
  • health insurance protection provided by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)

Benefits

There are 2 aprograms being financed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Learning (MEES)

  1. Full Merit Scholarship : This scholarship covers the following
    • Exemption from supplementary tuition fees payable by international students
    • Health insurance coverage provided by Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)
    •  Bursary award ranging from $14 000 to $ 26 000 depending on the duration of the chosen training program, to cover the student’s living expenses during his or her studies
    • You must proof that you have a minimum of CAD 3 000
  2. Tuition Exemption Scholarship
    • Exemption from supplementary tuition fees payable by international students
    • You must proof that you have a minimum of CAD 15 000

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must fulfill the following criteria.

  • Applicasnts need to be intending to pursue full-time studies in a vocational training program leading to one of the following:
    1. Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS)
    2. Attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS)
  • You must not be a citizen of France or Canada. Priority will be given to applicants from member countries of the Francophonie (excluding France and its overseas departments and territories – DOM-TOM), and countries of the leading markets of Asia (China, India, Japan) and the Americas (Mexico, Brazil).
  • Applicants should not have Canadian citizenship or a Canadian permanent resident status or be in the process of obtaining the permanent residence status under the Canadian immigration laws.
  • You must be residing outside of Canada at the time of submitting your application and up till the announcement of results.
  • There is no maximum age limit but applicants must be over 18 years of age
  • You must not have been a beneficiary of a scholarship awards for studies of the same level as or higher than the DEP in Quebec.
  • You must not be awarded any other scholarships within the same academic year as the program
  • Applicants need to have the required financial capacity.

Application

Along with the online application form, applicants will be required to submit the following documents

  1. Two recommendation forms completed by two different persons (Click here to download the A Annex)
  2. A copy of the bio-data page of your passport.
  3. A copy of your birth certificate.
  4. A copy of all transcripts for each of the programs mentioned in the academic documents section.
  5. A copy of all diplomas that you have obtained.
  6. A copy of all prizes, awards or distinctions received.
  7. A copy of your English language test result (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), or a proof of registration for such EXCEPT you have completed a higher education program of not less than 2-year duration in English language.
  8. Proof of sufficient financial capacity required for the chosen award program ($3 000 or $15 000)
