Call for Application for ThisisFINLAND Foreign Correspondents’ Programme

Apply for the thisisFINLAND Foreign Correspondents’ Programme (FCP) 2022 for aspiring journalists. The programme provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about Finland, Finnish society and the Finnish way of life. The program is administrated by The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland since 1990. The program also includes briefings on various subjects, meetings with Finnish professionals and visits to business enterprises, cultural sites and institutions.

If you have always wanted to visit Finland and have ever wondered about Finnish society and the Finnish way of life or you are just a young journalist or social media influencer, then this program is for you. Running from June 5, 2022 to June 11, 2022, the programme will host up to 14 representatives who will be selected by embassies in each participating country. Embassy representatives will make the selections in cooperation with the Communications Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

This year’s theme rotates around climate diplomacy and Finnish solutions for reaching carbon neutrality by 2035, and on Finland’s foreign policy. Selected participants will find out about inspiring Finnish solutions for reaching carbon neutrality, insight in Finland’s human-rights-based foreign policy, and equality in Finnish society, enjoy the pristine nature, sauna customs, and vibrant urban culture of Finland.

Benefits

Selected applicants will have the opportunity to spend a week learning about the Finnish way of life, creating connections and making new friends who share your interests, and having an unforgettable Foreign Correspondents’ Programme experience. The programme will cover the following:

• Selected applicants will receive coverage for travel costs from their home countries to Finland and back.
• Local travel around the capital Helsinki will also be catered for.
• The participants’ accommodation, and the daily programme, including transportation and some meals will also be covered by the programme

Eligibility

To apply for the scholarship, you must fullfill the following conditions:

1. You must be citizen or permanent resident of one of the following countries: Australia, Chile, France, Philippines, Tanzania, Angola, Tunisia, Israel, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Hungary, Poland, USA and the UK;
2. Be an aspiring journalist (recent graduate or soon to graduate) with some work experience in a media company (broadcast, print, or online), or a social media influencer, for example an accomplished blogger or vlogger.
3. Applicants must have sufficient ability to work and communicate fluently in English.
4. You must demonstrate the interest in learning new things, meeting people from different cultures, and spending a week in a foreign country.
5. applicants must also be excited about becoming a lifelong friends of Finland!

Intersected eligible applicants must submit their applications and required documents in English, before the deadline of application. Find below the procedure and required documents for application.

Your application along with all the required documents must be sent via mail to the Finnish Embassy or Consulate in your country. Here below is the list of require documents.

•  The Applicant’s application form
• Your most recent Curriculum vitae with a recent photo
• Submit a work sample, or an word essay, or a link to a short video (2–3 minutes) outlining and explaining your interest in Finland.
