Applications for the VLIR-UOS ICP Masters of Transportation Sciences Scholarships in Belgium. The ICP Master of Transportation Sciences Scholarship with focus on Road Safety in Low & Middle Income Countries presents a 2-year multidisciplinary master programme with a unique focus and approach to Road Safety in Developing Countries. Each year, this programme, supported by VLIR UOS makes available 12 scholarships for eligible students to apply and become part of this special experience
During the program, students are trained to identify transportation and road safety issues in order to create innovative solutions. Participants will use an integrative approach based on three pillars namely,
- The individual that deals with the human behavior in traffic and how to influence it e.g. intentional and unintentional riskful behavior such as drunk driving or cognitive impairments
- Environment that concentrates on creating self-explaining roads and infrastructure that minimizes crash impact
- The society that embeds issues like societal norms and translation into policy and enforcement measures
Participants will exchange views and experiences with fellow students from all over the world. You will interact with students from over 30 different nationalities are studying Transportation Sciences in Hasselt including Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Albania, Slovenia, Russia, Morocco, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Pakistan, Syria, Brazil, Costa Rica, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and many more.
Benefits
There is a total of 12 scholarships for this Master’s program scholarship. The scholarship will cover the following
- You will receive a monthly allowance worth € 1150/month to cover your cost of meals, transport, personal expenses and accommodation
- Attendants receive a 1- time payment for indirect travel costs worth € 150
- You will also receive a 1- time payment for logistical allowance worth € 850
- Insurance, international travel and tuition fee will also be covered by the scholarship
Eligibility
You will have to fulfill both the program specific and scholarship eligible criteria in order to apply for the scholarship
Program specific eligible criteria
- You must have at least an academic bachelor degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Behavioural sciences: psychology, sociology
- Political and social sciences
- Mathematical and statistical sciences
- Economy, transport economy
- Transport or traffic planning, urban planning or design, geography, (urban) architecture
- Engineering: transport engineer, civil engineer Minimum grade obtained: distinction
- You must proof of knowledge and proficiency of the English language with the following scores.
- a TOEFL-score report (paper based: score 550 or more, computer based: score 213 or more, internet base: score 79-80). Students who take in the test are required to indicate institution code 9005, so that the results are transmitted to Hasselt University directly.
- IELTS-certificate (min. overall band score 6.0).
- Any other English test of similar level as TOEFL or IELTS
- 1 year comprehensive English-based instruction at a university or recognized equivalent
- Native speakers or holders of a degree, obtained in the English language are exempt from proving the English proficiency
Scholarship specific eligible criteria
- You must be a national and resident of one of the the following countries. (Please see list here)
- You must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Applicates must not have previously received a scholarship from the Belgian government

You will have to complete the application form and submit the corresponding required documents for a complete application, you are advised to follow the steps below
- Complete the online application form in order to secure your admission for the program
- Fill and complete the VLIR UOS scholarship application form
- Arrange, organize and send hard copies of your application by post. The documents must include:
- The VLIR-UOS scholarship application form
- Hard copies of legalized degree certificates and academic transcripts
- Copies of additional necessary documents which may include certified English translations of diplomas and degrees
- Proof of your English proficiency
- You will need to provide 2 letters of recommendation from 2 different referees
